The Jedi Killer is a drawing of a three-barrelled gun that is intended to kill Jedi from Star Wars.

The gun is a drawing by Kmlkmljkl, a YouTuber who posts comedic clips.

He posted an MS Paint drawing of the gun on Reddit and got over 1.7k upvotes.

Jedi are a fictional organization of characters in the Star Wars universe who are highly skilled warriors.

They have mystical power of the Force, which includes telekenisis and mind control.

Jedi have lightsabers, which are powered by Kyber Crystals and can cut through nearly everything.

The original drawing contains a tripe-barreled gun named the “Jedi Killer”.

The Jedi in the drawing has a green light saber that deflected two bullets, but the third one hit him.

After the original drawing was posted, many users started making parodies of it.

Some users added more barrels to the gun while others added attachments.

A user (Johnmarmalade on Reddit) drew one more lightsaber on the Jedi, which deflected the third bullet.

In addition, he cancelled the the word “Killer” from “Jedi Killer”.

Other users made drawings of the Jedi countering the gun.

However, most users made the gun more powerful.

A user (Al2theE_X on Reddit), added more barrels to the gun in the drawing.

This countered the Jedi’s second light saber as the other two bullets hit him.

He named the drawing “Jedi Killer 2.0”, which is an upgraded version of the gun.

The post got over 18k upvotes on Reddit.

Other edits of the drawing include the same gun, but with multiple barrels shaped like a stickman, the same gun with missles, and the same drawing, but with an FN P90.

These memes are categorized as “Exploitable memes” because people can easily make edits of it.

In a matter of billionaires squabbling over chump change, NBA superstar LeBron James said Friday he won’t pay for a blue checkmark on Twitter ahead of the Elon Musk-owned company’s Saturday deadline.

James appears to be referring to the $8 monthly fee for Twitter Blue, the social media’s premium service that offers verification to all paid users and will be the only way for individuals to receive the coveted blue checkmark beginning Saturday when the company starts to remove verification badges from accounts verified under the company’s old regime.

James, whose 53 million Twitter followers make him one of the site’s most popular users, quickly went viral for his quip, picking up more than 70,000 likes in the first hour of his post.

Reigning Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes also said Friday he won’t pay for Twitter Blue, explaining he has kids to take care of (the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback’s $51.5 million in 2022 earnings made him the fourth-highest paid player in the NFL).

An outspoken critic of Twitter’s supposed liberal bias in its content policies, Musk bought the firm for $44 billion last October. Musk immediately took over as Twitter’s CEO and dramatically overhauled the company, firing thousands of employees and quickly rolling out a widely-panned process for paid users to get a verification badge previously reserved for prominent accounts and organizations. Musk claimed last month that the previous verification process had been corrupt.

In a Sunday reply to Shatner’s question, Musk supported the policy shift. writing there “shouldn’t be a different standard for celebrities” to get verified, despite pushback the removal of legacy verified badges could lead to an increase in impersonation and trolling.

After announcing that it would be winding down its NFT-related projects last month, Meta is now informing Instagram users that their current, active NFTs in the app will be deactivated as of April 11th.

As you can see in this screenshot, shared by Ahmed Ghanem, Instagram users are now being shown an alert to let them know about the change, which will be one of the final steps in Meta moving away from NFTs, which, evidently, are ngmi.

Instagram was, at one stage, viewed as the logical home for Meta’s NFT push, with the company looking to get in on the NFT boom as a means to showcase digital ownership, which it sees as a key element of its evolving metaverse push.

Meta first launched NFTs on Instagram in May last year with selected creators able to access a new posting option that enabled them to share ‘digital collectibles’ in the app, with data connected linked to the relevant blockchain, via various providers.

Though even at that stage, Meta was already latching onto the tail end of the NFT fad, and since then, NFT sales have continued to crater, impacted by lack of interest, broader disruption in crypto markets, and the economic downturn.

Evidently, there actually wasn’t much value in JPEGs, long term – though there remains a very dedicated, engaged NFT community that’s still exchanging and interacting with NFTs, and looking for the next potential use case for the process.

And there may still be one. As noted, as the metaverse becomes a thing (if it does), that will open up all new use cases for digital ownership, and digital items, including artworks, could still become a more significant consideration in this next shift.

But the metaverse, as its own concept, has fallen out of favor for now too – though Meta’s still developing its next-level system, and it could still end up being a transformative shift, sometime in future.

In this respect, NFTs effectively proved the use case for digital ownership, so maybe, really, NFT enthusiasts are just too far ahead of the curve right now, and one day, they’ll be telling stories about how they were laughed at for pushing these types of projects which have since become commonplace.

Maybe. Regardless, right now, NFTs are not an investment, not a valuable or viable experiment for the most part, and likely not really worth your time.

And soon, they’ll be gone from IG and Meta entirely, as it refocuses on other things.

TikTok top attorney reiterates safety measures for users

SAN FRANCISCO — The top attorney for TikTok and its Chinese parent company ByteDance said Friday the Biden administration hasn’t given any feedback to the company since TikTok’s CEO testified in Congress last week.

During a panel conversation at a conference in San Francisco that featured top government officials, tech executives and journalists, TikTok and ByteDance’s general counsel Erich Andersen also said TikTok has given user data to the U.S. government in response to requests related to law enforcement.

The comments come as the social media behemoth is under intense scrutiny over concerns it could hand user data to the Chinese government or push pro-Beijing propaganda and misinformation on its behalf.

Leaders at the FBI, CIA and officials at other government agencies have warned that ByteDance could be forced to give user data – such as browsing history, IP addresses and biometric identifiers – to Beijing under a 2017 law that compels companies to cooperate with the government for matters involving China’s national security. Another Chinese law, implemented in 2014, has similar mandates.

To assuage concerns from U.S. officials, TikTok has been emphasizing a $1.5 billion proposal, called Project Texas, to store all U.S. user data on servers owned and maintained by the software giant Oracle. Under the plan, access to U.S. data would be managed by U.S. employees through a separate entity called TikTok U.S. Data Security, which is run independently of ByteDance and monitored by outside observers.

Some lawmakers have said that’s not enough. But despite skepticism about the project, TikTok says it is moving forward anyway.

“We’re investing in a system where people don’t have to believe the Chinese government and they don’t have to believe us,” Andersen said.

He also wondered if the skepticism was being driven by something else.

“Where are we falling short here?” he said. “At some point you get beyond the cybersecurity risk assessment, etcetera, and you get to ‘We don’t like your nationality.’”

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew has said the company started deleting all historic U.S. user data from non-Oracle servers this month and expects that process to be completed this year. During a congressional hearing held last week, Chew said migrating the data to Oracle will keep it out of China’s hands, but also acknowledged China-based employees may still have access to it before the process wraps up.

“We’re trying to make it physically impossible for the Chinese government to get the U.S. user data,” Andersen said on Friday.

TikTok maintains it has never been requested to turn over any kind of data and won’t do so if asked. But whether those promises, or Project Texas, will allow it to stay operating in the U.S. remains to be seen.

The U.S., as well as Britain, the European Union and others, have banned TikTok on government devices. And the Biden administration is reportedly threatening a U.S. ban on the app unless its Chinese owners divest their stakes in the company.

On Friday, Andersen said a ban would be “basically giving up”.

“Banning a platform like TikTok is a defeat, it’s a statement that we aren’t creative enough to find another way,” he said.

China has said it would oppose a possible sale, a declaration that makes it more difficult for TikTok to position itself and ByteDance as a global enterprise instead of a Chinese company.

“They were clear about their point of view back in 2020 timeframe when we faced an existential challenge from executive orders under the Trump administration,” Andersen said.

In 2020, then-President Donald Trump sought to force ByteDance to sell off its U.S. assets and ban TikTok from app stores. Courts blocked Trump’s efforts, and President Joe Biden rescinded Trump’s orders after taking office.

Meanwhile, lawmakers on Capitol Hill have been pushing bills that would effectively ban TikTok or give the administration more authority to do so. One bill by U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley was blocked this week by Sen. Rand Paul, the only Republican who has come out in opposition to a TikTok ban. A small number of progressive lawmakers have also said they would oppose a ban, and argued the U.S. should implement a national privacy law to curtail the problem.

Andersen said Friday TikTok would support broad-based privacy legislation, and doesn’t want one that’s “targeted” at one company.

TikTok could also be banned through another bill, called the RESTRICT Act, that has garnered broad bipartisan support in the Senate and backing from the White House. The legislation does not call out TikTok but would give the Commerce Department power to review and potentially restrict foreign threats to technology platforms.

Twitter owner Elon Musk is preparing to make a series of changes to Twitter in the coming days, including making the social media platform’s algorithm open source and overhauling the company’s verification process. 

“Algorithm goes open source at noon Pacific Time,” Mr. Musk said Friday on Twitter. 

Mr. Musk’s desire to open Twitter’s algorithm to public view predates when he took over the social media company last October.

In May 2022, he said on Twitter that the platform’s algorithm was manipulating people in ways they did not realize. “Open source is the way to go to solve both trust and efficacy,” he said.

Twitter subsequently experimented with various ways to surface content to its users under Mr. Musk’s leadership and it decided to give people a choice of swiping between the “For You” and “Following” tabs in January. 

The “For You” tab shows content recommended by Twitter for a user while the “Following” tab intends to present content from people a user follows in chronological order.

Mr. Musk oversaw changes to Twitter’s recommendations and he has said more are coming soon. 

Earlier this week, he said the “For You” recommendations would be limited to Twitter’s verified users starting April 15. He later clarified that content from accounts that users follow would also appear via recommendations from Twitter. 

Twitter has also announced its verifications would soon apply more narrowly to paying users and it would begin stripping the blue checkmark badges from unpaying users on April 1.

Opening Twitter’s recommendation algorithm up to public view is expected to provide new insight for technically savvy users into the social media platform’s function.

Some source code for Twitter is already publicly available. Twitter has a Community Notes tool that allows contributors to generate tags applied to tweets with additional context, and Twitter made source code for the notes’ algorithm available on GitHub. 

Critics have complained that publishing source code for Twitter’s recommendation algorithm will create problems. For example, the MIT Technology Review raised concerns in April 2022 that opening the algorithm would allow competitors to copy the computer code. 

Precisely what Mr. Musk chooses to make public and when he decides to do so remains to be seen. He previously said on Twitter in February that he wanted to make the algorithm open source in the coming week, before saying more than a month later that he would open the computer code up on Friday.
